It was released on September 18, 2007, through J Records. Into the Wild director Sean Penn selected Eddie Vedder to provide the music for the film. The songs for the soundtrack were recorded in 2007 at Studio X in Seattle, Washington.

It features appearances from several musicians prominent in the early 1990s Grunge movement in Seattle. Singles centers on the precarious romantic lives of a group of young Gen X’ers in Seattle, Washington at the height of the 1990s Grunge phenomenon. Most of the characters dwell in an apartment block, a sign in front of which advertises “Singles” (single bedroom apartments) for rent.
